Amina Yusuf (b. 1998, Kano State) graduates from Yaba College of Technology in 2025. She moved to Lagos for school but her work stays connected to the north.
She grinds her own pigments from materials sourced in Kano. Her patterns reference Hausa architecture and her grandmother's woven cloth.
"The patterns I use aren't decorations. They have meanings. I'm trying to learn what my grandmother knew without having to ask."
'Market Rhythms' started from sketches I made at Kurmi Market in Kano. I wanted to turn the feeling of being there into something visual.
